
Navigating Future Communication by Human for Human
Institute of Engineering and Technology on Campus General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University(IET-KDU) is collaborated with Electronics, Robotics and Innovation Club of General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University (ERIC- KDU) , Ratmalana recently played host to a captivating event. In a world rapidly advancing through technological innovations, the ability to communicate effectively remains a cornerstone of human connection and progress. On June 10, 2024, Dr. Amal Punchihewa, a distinguished expert in the field of communication technologies, delivered an insightful guest lecture titled "Navigating Future Communication by Human for Human" at FOE 4-1.
Dr. Amal Punchihewa's lecture delved into the profound impact of technological advancements on communication, stressing the importance of considering not just the technical aspects but also their societal implications. He elucidated how AI, ML, VR, AR, and 5G are revolutionizing interactions, from enabling real-time language translation to creating immersive environments that bridge physical and digital spaces. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of remote work, necessitating investments in digital collaboration tools and platforms. Dr. Punchihewa underscored the importance of ensuring digital access for all to bridge the digital divide and addressed rising concerns about privacy and security in digital communication.
Despite technological strides, Dr. Punchihewa emphasized the irreplaceable human element in communication, highlighting the significance of empathy, emotional intelligence, and personalized messaging. He stressed the need for digital literacy and lifelong learning to effectively navigate future communication tools, advocating for staying abreast of the latest trends and tools.
Dr. Punchihewa's lecture offered a comprehensive outlook on the future of communication, emphasizing a balance between technological innovation and human-centric principles, including empathy, personalization, and continuous learning, to ensure that communication remains meaningful, inclusive, and effective in the evolving digital landscape.

The Hands On Session on IOT systems design on local area network organized by the members of the IOT on going campus KDU, aiming to evaluate the knowledge of undergraduates about IOT systems design on local area network, was successfully held on 04th January 2023 at the Main IT Lab, KDU Southern Campus.
A tree plantation program was held on 25th February 2023 at the university premises. It was organized to celebrate 150th anniversary of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). In order to celebrate the anniversary IET Sri Lanka Local Network decided to plant 150 different plants in Sri Lanka around the country. As a part of that community, IET On- Campus UR planted 20 different plants on the faculty premises.
