AGM 2024 On Campus KDU
The IET On Campus AGM began with the arrival of distinguished guests, Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, Deputy Vice Chancellor Major General DCA Wickramasinghe, Keynote Speaker Dr. Tharaka Mohotti, Deans, HODs and IET representatives, highlighting collaboration and academic leadership at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University
Sri Lankan traditions were honored, lighting the traditional oil lamp by distinguished guests, including Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara and other esteemed officials.
The event celebrated the academic and professional community, marking the beginning of another successful year for the IET on Campus KDU.
The IET AGM at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University for 2024 showcased the achievements of IET On Campus KDU, a vibrant student chapter of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. The meeting began with the KDU anthem, setting a respectful and inspiring tone. The Pooja dance, performed by students from the Engineering Faculty, served as a vibrant welcome dance. This traditional performance showcased the cultural heritage and artistic talent of the students, creating a lively and festive atmosphere that set a celebratory tone for the event.
In her final address as a secretary, PTS Sannangala warmly welcomed the esteemed gathering and took a moment to highlight the significant achievements during her tenure. She expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts, gratitude for the unwavering support of her colleagues and the community, and her optimism for the organization's future growth. Sannasgala expressed gratitude to everyone for their dedication and commitment, emphasizing that their collective efforts had significantly impacted the outcome.
IET on Campus at KDU is a student chapter of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Their vision is to inspire and nurture future engineers and technologists, while their mission focuses on providing opportunities for professional development, networking, and innovation. They have hosted workshops, awareness sessions, and lectures, showcasing their achievements and capabilities in these areas.
The outgoing president, Cadet Sergeant RL Senerath, delivered a compelling speech, reflecting on the chapter's growth and impact within the KDU community. He expressed gratitude to the dedicated committee and active members for fostering skill development and industry connections. Encouraging the incoming committee, he inspired them to continue the legacy of excellence and innovation.
The Outgoing Assistant Secretary, Cadet Corporal KVDVN Karavita, provided a comprehensive overview of the IET chapter's initiatives and activities carried out during the last academic year. This encompassed workshops, awareness sessions, and impactful outreach programs that engaged the student body and the wider community.
At the AGM of IET, the main highlight was the appointment of the committee for 2024. Cadet Sergeant RL Senarath, the immediate past president, presented the badge to the incoming president, Sahan Premachandra marking the commencement of their term. The incoming president then bestowed badges upon the new committee members for 2024/2025 marking a significant moment in the chapter's ongoing journey of innovation and leadership.
Sahan Premachandra's speech outlined a visionary roadmap for 2024, emphasizing innovation, collaboration, and growth within the IET community at KDU. His ambitious plans included fostering technological advancements, enhancing member engagement, and expanding outreach programs. His inspiring address set a promising tone for the year ahead.
We were honored to have Dr. Tharaka Mohotty, IET Sri Lanka Network Chaimen presented as the keynote speaker at our Annual General Meeting. Dr. Mohotty, who has over 38 years of experience in television broadcasting and has received multiple awards, including the Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union's Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award, presented his knowledge of digital broadcasting as well as insights from his successful career. His contributions greatly brightened the event.
In this momentous event, the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, accompanied by the Chapter Advisor of IET on Campus KDU, presented tokens of appreciation to the distinguished keynote speaker and IET representatives. The newly appointed president, Sahan Premachandra, handed over these tokens to honor their significant contributions and support.
The Vice Chancellor, Dean of Engineering, keynote speaker, incoming president and the website developer launched the website of IET On Campus KDU. This milestone enhances the chapter's digital presence, offering a dynamic platform for aspiring engineers to connect, learn, innovate, and access valuable resources.
At the Annual General Meeting of the IET Society at KDU, the Beige Band delivered an outstanding singing performance. Comprised exclusively of cadets from the university, the band showcased their exceptional talent and added a unique touch to the event. Their performance was a highlight of the evening, demonstrating the diverse skills and dedication of KDU cadets.
At the AGM, outgoing IET On Campus KDU committee members received certificates of appreciation from Senior Professor JR Lucas, Chapter Advisor, Senior Lecturer Eng. SU Dampage, and Officer-In-Charge Major Saliya Delgamuwa. The ceremony honored their dedicated service and invaluable contributions to the chapter's activities and the engineering community at KDU.
Newly appointed secretary Dinethya Bandara expressed heartfelt gratitude at the IET AGM, acknowledging the dedicated efforts of organizers, participants, and esteemed guests. Their contributions ensured the event's success, fostering innovation and collaboration. Special thanks were given to the IET On Campus KDU team for their commitment to advancing engineering and technology at KDU.
The event ended with the National Anthem.

A tree plantation program was held on 25th February 2023 at the university premises. It was organized to celebrate 150th anniversary of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). In order to celebrate the anniversary IET Sri Lanka Local Network decided to plant 150 different plants in Sri Lanka around the country. As a part of that community, IET On- Campus UR planted 20 different plants on the faculty premises.
The drone workshop, “The Quadgame”, organized by the IET On Campus University of Peradeniya, marked a significant endeavor in fostering practical understanding and expertise in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology among engineering undergraduates. It was successfully held on the 26th of January 2024 from 9.00 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Drawing Office II, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. This workshop was held with a focus on simulation, design, fabrication, and practical application. Also, this initiative embodies interdisciplinary collaboration, hands-on learning, and industry-relevant skill development.
