IET Paul Fletcher Award Finalists 2023 - Eng.(Mrs) Sanjeewika Rathnayake
Sanjeewika Rathnayake BSc(Hons) MIET is a finalist for the Paul Fletcher Award in 2023 for her outstanding contributions to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in Sri Lanka. She began her journey as a volunteer for her Local Network (LN) in 2017 whilst at university. Her dedication and passion for engineering and technology led her to take on various roles, including assistant secretary and then secretary for the On Campus.
Sanjeewika's commitment extended beyond her immediate responsibilities. She played a significant role in organizing and volunteering at key events such as the Present Around the World South Asia conference, the Young Professionals conference, and the Nurturing Intelligence for Curious Engineers event. Her enthusiasm and hard work were instrumental in the success of these events, which provided valuable platforms for knowledge sharing and professional development.
Her journey continued as she joined the Sri Lanka LN Young Professionals, where she contributed to various initiatives aimed at supporting and empowering young engineers. In 2023, she was appointed Vice Chair in IET Young Professionals, a role in which she demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision.
Reflecting on her journey from a quiet student to the accomplished professional she is today, Sanjeewika attributes much of her growth to her volunteering experiences. She considers herself fortunate to have been mentored by talented and motivated seniors who groomed the younger generation with dignity, respect, and inspiration. These experiences not only honed her technical skills but also nurtured her leadership qualities and passion for community service.
Sanjeewika believes that the engineering community has a profound responsibility to inspire and influence the next generation. She urges her peers and fellow engineers to seize the moment and make a difference.
